PRIVATE TRAINING

:::

"And then there's the personal question so many of Lassie's fans want to ask: Is he allowed on the furniture? Of course he is - but, then, he's the one who paid for it" ~ Julia Glass.

:::

Welcome to WAGDogs! You have come to the right place! Our private training takes place either in the comfort of your home/yard, or via  Zoom and FaceTime meetings (new!).

How can we help you?

  • Do you have a busy schedule and cannot train and socialize your pup?
  • Do you prefer to have your dog trainer do the work?
  • Do you need help with your new puppy/dog?
  • Has your teenage dog turned into a "Devil in a cute suit?"
  • Is your dog protecting some items and/or food from other dogs or people? Is he guarding "contraband" (stolen) items?  Does he run away from you when you want him to leave an item?
  • Are you having difficulty walking your dog because of your dog's behaviour towards people or other dogs?
  • Is your dog fearful?
  • Would you like to teach your dog/pup good obedience training and a solid recall?

We can help.

Private Training:

NEW: Private training can also be done via Zoom meetings or FaceTime, from anywhere in the world!!

Contact Claire at WAGDogs.

Private training takes place in the comfort of your home / yard, or other location where your dog is most comfortable. It can also take place via Zoom or FaceTime.  We encourage you to read our philosophy to familiarize yourself with the kind of training we use.

We offer various services for all your private training needs:

1)  The One-issue session;

2)  WAGPups - Private Program (for very young pups, under 11 weeks of age at the start of the program);

3)  WAGTeen - Private Program (for all dogs and puppies - no age limit);

4)  A La Carte training for all pups and dogs (Great for refreshers or to add to your private program!);

5)  B-Mod (Behaviour Modification private program, customized to your dog's needs);

1) ONE-ISSUE session (about 1.5 hour): $275. Your dog has an unwanted behaviour but you are not sure where to start?  Let's chat on the phone to narrow down the bundle of issues to just one main issue. Price is for 1 dog. Price includes a detailed summary report that will be emailed to you a few days after the session.

If the ONE-ISSUE session is for more than 1 dog with the same issue, please add $100 to the above price. If the session is for more than 1 dog, but with a different issue, then the full price of $275 will apply for each dog.

Note: this option is for ligther issues only. This is not a good option for dogs with high anxiety, reactivity, strong resource-guarding, or other serious issues, including running-away, or dogs who do not come when called.

This One-issue session is for the following mild issues: pulling on leash (no reactivity); jumping on people; counter-surfing; very mild resource-guarding (especially important if your pup is under 4 months of age); digging; puppy mouthing/biting; attention-seeking behaviours (such as demand-barking); door manners (boundaries); crate training / house-training (or potty training for pups); wanting to learn more about canine enrichment.

For questions or to book this session, please contact WAGDogs.

Additional charges: Travel charges to North locations within Calgary city-limits apply at $25 per session/consultation.

2) WAGPUPS - Private Program (for pups 9 to 11 weeks of age at the start of the program):

Did you get a new puppy and would like to start him off on the right paw? Start with your WAGPups program today!

Your puppy will be going through various stages of development until he is about 2 years old; however, did you know that the most important stage happens between 4 weeks and 12 weeks of age? By 12 weeks of age, your puppy's critical window of socialization starts to close.  By 14 to 16 weeks of age, the critical window of socialization has closed (depending on breeds). A puppy's development and behavioural standpoint are now established.  This means that after 16 weeks of age, a puppy loses his fearless - yet healthy - curiosity and becomes wary of new things. When a puppy is wary of new things, it becomes harder to turn him into a confident adult dog and it takes more time. Take advantage of that early innocence: start your puppy on our program very early on!

Our WAGPups program will be tailored based on the age and needs of your puppy. These are sessions all done in the comfort of your home / yard.

How to start:

  • We will first start with an initial consultation in the comfort of your home, so we can discuss your options, goals, and training plan.  The price for this consultation is: $150
  • Training plan includes handouts, any reading materials, and email support during your program. Payment with a signed agreement will be required to book your program.
  • Pricing is for one pup.

-You will also receive guidance in these areas: Socialization, Cooperative Care & Handling, Solving Common Behaviour issues, Canine Enrichment, House training/ Crate training and playpen, How to avoid Separation Anxiety, How to avoid resource-guarding; What is PICA? 3) WAGTEEN - Private Program (generally for pups 12 weeks and older, including adult dogs. No age limit).

Are you ready to continue your pup's education?  If you started with WAGPups program, the WAGTeen program is your next step!

Your pup/dog has boundless of energy and wants to play all the time.  Your (young) dog is growing fast.  Many stages of development are taking place, including another fear period that corresponds with growth spurt, and starts at about 5-6 months of age.  During this stage, often times, dogs seem to regress and forget everything they've learnt.  Your (young) dog's teeth are changing, his gums are sore...this is the destructive phase.  This is also when pups test their boundaries at home and their place in this world.  Ouch! These are not easy stages and you might even start growing a few gray hair, but training is even more crucial at that age so that your pup does not turn into a rebel.  Also important, is bonding with your pup. A good humane-canine connection is primordial for the well-being of your pup and to establish trust.

Note: This program is for dogs who are friendly towards other dogs or humans with generally no behaviour issues.  If this is not the case, if your dog is fearful, reactive to other dogs or people when on-leash, has separation anxiety, is a resource-guarder, or is exhibiting aggressive behaviour, please refer to our Behaviour Modification (B-Mod) program below.  If in doubt, please contact us.

Our WAGTeen program will be tailored based on the age and needs of your dog. These are sessions all done in the comfort of your home / yard.

5) WAGDOGS - The BEHAVIOUR MODIFICATION (B-Mod) Program:

Does your dog chase fast moving objects? Bikes? Cars? Joggers? Skateboards?

Does your dog lunge, bark, and overall goes out of control when on-leash and when seeing another dog?

Is your dog a fearful dog, shy around people, and/or overall shut down?

Does your dog wag his tail when meeting people, but tries to bite them once they turn their back?

Is your dog afraid of being left alone? Does he bark/howl? Do you think your dog has separation anxiety?

Is your dog having some issues with resource-guarding (possessive agressive)?

A little bit of information on what is a B-Mod:

B-Mod (behaviour modification) program is for dogs in need of extra help adjusting to your human world.

We use proven science-based techniques; however, a B-Mod plan is not a guarantee of success especially for serious cases.  Owner's compliance is key.

Success can be slow and will depend on the age of the dog, his history, genetics, ethology/breed, health, and mostly, how long he's rehearsed the unwanted behaviour.

Success will also depend on how complex your dog's behaviour is, and if there is a bite history (bites level 3 or higher require strict owner compliance).  Check out the bite scale of your dog with this reference: Bite Scale.

A behaviour modification plan can be a full-on investment on your part: time-wise and financially.

  • Our program requires an initial consultation to assess your dog and discuss a training plan. The initial consultation is: $285.  This initial consultation takes about 90 minutes of your time.  A few days after our initial consultation, you will receive a detailed summary report with a proposed behaviour modification/training plan based on what was discussed during our first meeting. This summary report will be key to get you started on your own by offering you various management/prevention options.
  • Commitment is an important aspect of our B-Mod programs.  However, not set in stone, we usually recommend a training plan with a minimum of 4 sessions to start with, for $540.  Or, you can jump right in, and pre-purchase a training plan of 6 sessions to get the 7th session for free: $810.
  • Price and number of sessions may vary with the case at hand.
  • Your training plan will include customized handouts and any reading material.
  • Your training plan will also include 2 months of email support after your last session.
  • Sessions can take place in your home; or virtually using FaceTime or Zoom.
  • If you would just like to purchase a refresher (not recommended if your dog has never received any training or behaviour modification): One session: $175/hour.  Exact session's content shall be discussed prior to the visit.  This includes any handout and reading material. This option does not include email support.
  • A contract shall be signed by all parties before starting a B-Mod session.
  • Book your initial consultation today and let's chat about your options.
